Myleus schomburgkii "Big Black Stripe" Pacu
Obviously many different varieties - or do they even represent different species, who knows? - Of the attractive pacu Myleus schomburgkii exist. We obtained recently very nice specimens from Colombia, which are characterized by the very broad black band over the body. Our fish are 9-12 cm long and only subadults; Myleus schomburgkii attains a maximum size of more than 40 cm. Nevertheless there are already very clear sexual differences in coloration. The males have a red breast and a rusty-red back, while the ladies seem to turn pale from envy.
For our customers: the fish have code 270514 on our stock list. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade. Available in limited numbers only. They primarily eat fruits, small fish, crustaceans, clams, and snails. This fish is capable of delivering serious bites. This species is found in the middle and lower Amazon River basin, Nanay River, upper Orinoco River basin in Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, and possibly in Suriname.
