Xiphophorus milleri the Catemaco Platy Livebearer
Lake Catemaco Swordtail Xiphophorus milleri
This is another, very interesting species of wild livebearer we can offer. Our specimens are German bred. Initially this platy originates from the Laguna Catemaco, a freshwater lake in Mexico. X, milleri lives exclusively in this lake, it is an endemic species. The lake has a volcanic origin. Despite the fact that the water temperature hardly ever is lower than 20°C in the lake, it has proven to be a good idea to keep X, milleri at room temperature, without an additional heater. Otherwise the species becomes ailing over generations. The females of the stock we currently can offer are almost 4 cm long. This is about twice of the length and more than four times of the mass of the males, which look almost dwarfish beside them.
According to Rich Serva Xiphophorus milleri is a swordless variety of pygmy swordtail. Although this small swordtail is limited to a small area (Lake Catemaco and its associated feeder streams), it has evolved to various different micromelanophone and macromelanophone patterned morphs. Read more.
