Petenia splendiada are a large species of cichlid which is considered and ambush predator. Its mouth is highly protractible and can extend out and inhale prey small enough to fit into its mouth. They are somewhat similar to the Caquetaia species of cichlid Like C. kraussii, C. myseri, and C. spectabilis. The nickname for his cichlid is the snook.
